The booking block

What customers see and do on your storefront, and the settings on the Session booking block.

Customers book through the Session booking block, a block from the Repose app that you add to a page in your theme. It talks to the app through your own store’s address, so it works with any Shopify theme and needs no code.

Adding it

Online Store → Themes → Customize → open the page → Add block → Session booking. Save. Until it is on a page, nothing is bookable.

What a customer sees

Before signing in. The venue’s real open times for a day they choose, so they can decide before they create an account. Late in the day, “today’s times have gone” rather than “closed”.

Signed in with credits. Their balance, with gifted credits marked and their use-by shown. They pick a day, pick a time and take it in one tap. Exactly one credit comes off, and the block says so. Someone with no credits left is told what to buy, with a link, rather than just refused.

Signed in as a member. Their membership’s standing in the words the app can stand behind: renews weekly through a date, or runs until a date and does not renew, or renewal not yet seen. Covered bookings cost no credit.

The waiver. Before their first booking, the venue’s actual waiver wording, ticked once. It is not asked again until you publish a change you decide is worth re-agreeing to. If the wording changes while they have it open, they are shown the new text rather than having their tick recorded against text they never read.

Cancelling. Their upcoming bookings, with a cancel that returns the credit if it is before your cancellation notice.

Holding a time before paying

Someone who has never bought anything can reserve the time they want first and pay for it in the same visit. They see an honest countdown, can give the time back, and the purchase turns into a confirmed booking on its own. If their time was taken before payment finished, they are told plainly, keep what they paid for as credits, and pick another time.

This is off by default per store, because turning it on changes what an anonymous visitor can do to your availability. Turn it on from Settings when you want it. The Today page shows how many times are being held and lets staff free them all if someone is abusing it.

Settings on the block

In the theme editor, the block has a few settings of its own:

  • Location, if you have more than one.
  • What to say to a member whose fixed-term membership is ending, since some venues sell a renewal online and some want a phone call.

Everything else, hours, capacity, lengths and prices, comes from the app and from your products.

What the block does not do

It sends no email. A booking made here is confirmed on screen and appears in the app; Shopify’s own order emails cover the purchase. It does not let a customer pick a payment option for a product with more than one; it sends them to the product page for that.
